Mid winter check-in

As winter in Central Maine continues on, so does our response to emergency and routine service calls. The cold doesn’t stop our Mobile Mechanics from doing their job and doing it well. We wanted to take a moment to check in and give you a few tips and things to check on your vehicle to ensure you stay safe in the snow, ice, and rain.

Tires- now is a good time to stop and double check your tire treads. Ensure they are up to legal and safe standards. Low tread, or worse- partially balded tires- can be deadly! So please- stop and take the time to check your tread. Use the upside down penny trick to measure depth, or contact KAR and we will be happy to provide you with a thorough vehicle health inspection which will check all safety features and vehicle systems. We will leave you with a detailed report and what areas may need attention.

Wipers- take a moment to ensure your wipers are in good condition. Poor visibility is another leading cause of vehicular accident. Though small, they play an important role in maintaining clear visibility while on the road. Lift the blade, run a clean finger along the rubber. It should feel soft, pliable, and smooth. If you feel dry, rough, jagged, or damaged blades, you need to change them ASAP. Either pick up a pair locally, or call us. We will get them replaced for you and keep you safely on the road!

Headlights- Poor visibility is dangerous. Now is the time to take a moment. Check your headlights for fogginess, damage, and proper illumination. If you have questions or concerns, we can help! Be safe- stay visible!

Of course, we at KAR can only help with your mechanical safety. Remember that distracted driving, speeding, and driving under the influence are the leading causes of vehicular accidents. Only you can ensure you are wearing your seat belt and driving responsibly. Let us help you keep your vehicle safe so you can have peace of mind as you continue to responsibly drive on these wintery Maine roads. Remember, a responsible driver only drives a safe vehicle.
